Lake Taupo Scenic Flight - Lakes & Mountains
Peek at the Lake
The “A Peek at the Lake” scenic flight takes off from the waters of Taupo Bay, past Acacia Bay to Rangatira Point viewing the crystal clear waters of Whakaupo and Mine Bay. Climbing up through the Mapara Valley to view red scoria quarries before passing over the headwaters of the mighty Waikato River. See the bubbling mud and steaming vents of the mysterious“Craters of the Moon” thermal area and onto the bore fields of the Wairakei Power station, following the maze of pipe work to the power station. The finale – an aerial circuit of the magnificent Huka Falls, over Taupo’s town, and coming in to land along Taupo’s lakefront.

Western Bay Explorer
There is no faster or better way to explore New Zealand’s largest Lake. This trip takes you to the most secluded and picturesque part of Lake Taupo, otherwise inaccessible by car. Be amazed by the crystal clear water and towering volcanic cliffs of the western Bays. Before flying back to Taupo via the Wairakei steam field and Huka Falls.

Orakei Korako
Taking off from the waters of Taupo Bay the scenic flight turns over the boat harbour tracking north past the steaming “Craters of the Moon” to the Hidden Valley of “Orakei Korako”. Landing on the Waikato River to tie along side a floating jetty where you disembark for a journey into the hidden valley of Orakei Korako which takes about 1-1 ½ hours. The return flight passes over the massive Huka Falls and over Taupo’s town before landing along the lakefront.

Mt Ruapehu Vista
Taupo’s Floatplane’s “Mt Ruapehu” scenic flight departs from the Taupo bay tracking south to fly over Turangi, Mt Pihanga, Lake Rotoaira, the Blue and Emerald Lakes, the Tama Lakes to the summit of Mt Ruapehu. A circuit of the summit allows you to view into the Crater Lake and the ski fields on the slopes of Mt Ruapehu. Starting our journey north again we travel onto Mt Ngauruhoe ( Mt Doom ) to view into the centre of this classic volcano, then over Mt Tongariro viewing the Red crater, Blue lake, old lava flows and the most recently active Te Mari Crater before we begin our descent over Lake Taupo to land along the lakefront.
